People who are overweight may struggle with self-esteem issues

Obesity doesn’t just affect your body. It’s a disease that can also affect your confidence and self-esteem If you’ve experienced shame or guilt because of your weight or appearance, you’re not alone. These are common emotions for people living with obesity. And they may be reinforced by a society that is still learning how to understand obesity as a chronic disease.
However, there are strategies that can help you build your self-esteem. When you feel good about yourself, you may find yourself in a much better position to take small, meaningful steps forward, even if you feel like you have a long way to go.
Here are some Micro steps that may help you boost your confidence and self-esteem. As always, consult with your care team for recommendations and guidelines that can be tailored for you.
1. Write down one physical feature you appreciate about yourself. It can be anything – for example: your eyes, hair, smile, or hands. Over time you can add to your list, and you may start to get in the habit of thinking kindly about yourself.
2. Focus on non-scale victories. Celebrate achievements that aren't related to your weight, such as feeling more energetic, sleeping better, or fitting more comfortably in your clothes.
3. Speak compassionate words to yourself. We often find it easy to give a compliment to someone else, but we rarely speak to ourselves with kindness. When you wake up in the morning or look in the mirror, remind yourself that you are valuable.
4. Practice self-care. Make a point to do something that recharges and refreshes you and gives you joy, like a bath with essential oils, a movie, a good book, or a relaxing stroll in nature.
